An exceptional building

The building

The Hôtel des Postes has a truly glorious past as a Château Postal. It is now being transformed into an elegant, dynamic destination blending office and retail space, which promise to deliver a unique experience to all its visitors and tenants.

This ambitious redevelopment has respect for the architectural details at its core. Preserving the majestic facade, main hall, and original staircases whilst also injecting a touch of contemporary design and finishes.

Hôtel des Postes, a gem of Swiss architectural heritage

The Hôtel des Postes was built in the late 19th century and at this time it already represented a majestic fusion between age-old artisan craftmanship and new innovative techniques. Architect Eugène Jost used reinforced concrete, a technological achievement at the time.

The building’s refined aesthetic draws inspiration from the splendour of a Chateau de la Loire. Walls are clad with white stone, the roof is crowned with chimneys and skylights, the whole peppered with Mannerist details. The monumental Neo-Renaissance façade gives the building a unique aura, elevating it to the rank of Swiss cultural property of national importance.

An exemplary renovation for an exceptional building

The Hôtel des Postes began its metamorphosis in October 2023. The transformation includes a full upgrade to the building façade, the installation of solar panels, the restoration of external historic details, and the construction of an entirely new southern extension. A rooftop with 360-degree views across Lausanne and Lake Geneva will be delivered. Swiss Post will remain one of the ground floor tenants, and new public facing retail spaces will also be created.

Once the transformation work is complete, the Saint-François post office will reopen its doors in the new refurbished space. By retaining this office, Swiss Post are confirming their desire to remain in this magnificent, historic building.
